Marie Proch, 91, of Scott Township, died Monday at Allied Service Nursing Center, Scranton. She was the widow of Walter Proch, who died in 2000.

Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Helen Shipsky Kutch. She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson.  Marie devoted her life to caring for her family and being active in the church.

She was a member of St. Basil’s Orthodox Church of America, Simpson and the parish council. Marie also served with the Century Association and the Diocesan Council at St. Tikhon’s Monastery, South Canaan.

Marie is survived by three children and their spouses, Walter Proch and Maryanne, Kennett Square, Daria Roat and Dr. David, New Jersey and John Proch, Scott Township, four grandchildren, Christina Maria and Elizabeth Anne  Proch, Alexandra and Benjamin Roat.,  A brother, Harry Kutch, New Castle, DE.

She was preceded in death by a Daughter, Maria Proch, a  sister, Dorothy Kutch and a brother, Stephen Kutch.

The funeral will be Saturday with a Requiem Service at 10:00 AM in St. Basil’s Orthodox Church of America, 9 Lord Ave., Simpson by the Rev. Jason Franchak.  Interment will be in St. John’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Dundaff.

Family and friends may visit on Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson. Parastas will be at 6:00 PM.  There will be a visitation on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Basil’s Orthodox Church of America, 9 Lord Ave., Simpson, PA. 18407 or the Ronald McDonald House, 332 Wheeler Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
