Michael D. Polednak, 82, of Mayfield died Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. His wife of 55 years is the former, Arlene Berko. The couple was married in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Mayfield.-

Born in Clifford Township, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Helen Gurnik Polednak. Michael was a graduate of Forest City High School, Class of 1959 and Johnson Technical Institute, Scranton, class of 1962.  He served as a Private First Class in the Army.

Michael retired from the Gentex Corp., Simpson.  He was a member of Christ the King Parish, Jermyn/Mayfield Knights of Columbus Council # 3506, and Assembly # 2768  where he was a 4th degree member. Michael was a committeeman for Boy Scout Troop # 87, Mayfield and a former member of the Mayfield Lion’s Club, and a former Little League Baseball Coach.  He was an all-around handy- man , enjoyed going to car shows, and built his own custom street rod.

The family also extends thanks to the staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley for their tireless efforts.

Michael is survived by  three children and their spouses, Arlene Nowak and Andrew, Mayfield, Mark Polednak and Ann Marie, Clifford and Adrianna Nee and Patrick, Old Forge. He was known as Dziadzi ( grandfather) to his  six grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan and Angelica Nowak, Jacob, Kaitlyn and Luke Nee.  He is also survived by  two brothers, Robert A Polednak, Forest City and Rev. John V. Polednak, Scranton, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gerard Polednak III.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Christ The King Parish, St Thomas Aquinas Church, 411 Church St, Archbald, to be celebrated by his brother, Rev. John V. Polednak, V.E.  Interment with military honors will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Jermyn.

A visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Assembly # 2768 or Boy Scout Troop # 87, both mailed C/O Frank Ryczak , 262 Chapman Lake Road, Scott Township, Jermyn, Pa. 18433.
