Ralph G. Hoyle, 90, formerly of Carbondale died on Saturday at Wayne Woodland Manor, Waymart with his family by his side.  His wife, the former Edna Wormuth, died in 2009.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Donald and Mary Dorothy Goodwin Hoyle, Sr.  Ralph was a 1951 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.  Ralph and Edna owned and operated Roemmelmeyers Men & Women’s Store in Carbondale for 30 years prior to their retirement.

He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale , and enjoyed the choir and was a Children’s Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a frequent visitor at the Berean Baptist Church, Carbondale.  Ralph was a member of the Carbondale Y.M.C.A. where he was a Ping Pong champion, and a member of the Senior League at Valley Lanes Bowling. He was an assistant instructor at the Lackawanna Vo-Tech School and many days could be seen on his daily walks.

Ralph was known as a good neighbor helping whenever he could.  He was also known for his baking especially scones and fudge which he donated to many Carbondale Area bake sales.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wayne Woodlands Manor for their care of Ralph.

He is survived by a son, David Hoyle and wife Jennifer, Jermyn, three daughters and their husbands, Laura and Thomas Evans, Childs, Kimberly and Dominick Nati, The Villages, Fl., Faith and Charles Terrery, Dunmore, a brother, Donald Hoyle, Mayfield, three sisters, Jane Hayden, Clarks Summit, Linda Fortuner and Carolyn Race, both of Carbondale, nine grandchildren, Courtney Rosenkrans, Thomas Evans, Erika Chang, Bianca Nati, David, Ian and Mora Hoyle and Jason and Alex Terrey, 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son Joseph and a sister, Judy Hoyle.

The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church, 76 Salem Ave., Carbondale with services by Pastor Wayne Wolfe.  Interment at a later date will be at Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart. Family and friends may visit at the church from 11 AM until time of service.
