Robert E. Dragwa, 81, of Simpson died Wednesday at the Carbondale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. His wife and best friend  of 53 years, is the former Irene Zawisky.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son the  late Joseph and Mary Howanitz Dragwa. He was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson. Robert then served in the Army during the Viet Nam War. He retired from Proctor & Gamble Company after 31 years as a plant operator and electrician. Bob was the first employee to achieve a repeat of Tech 6 classification.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Church/ St. Rose Parish. Robert was an active member of the Walter Paciga V.F.W. Post # 4712, Simpson holding the office of Commander for 10 years and a member of the Honor Guard team. He also served as district commander for the V.F.W for 2 years.  Bob was a life member of the Viet Nam Post # 1, and a member of the Grattan Singer Hose Co., Simpson.

After retirement, Bob enjoyed his part time job as a server for the Crystal Lake Hotel.  He also was a community supporter and tried to help whenever possible. His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren whom he loved.

He is survived by his three children, Kristen Solomon and husband Ron, ,Archbald, sons,  Kevin and  Kyle Dragwa, Simpson, five grandchildren, Aniesa, Aidan, Aaron, Athan and Landon,  three brothers, Carl, Salisbury, MD, Richard, Forest City and Leonard, Scranton, a sister Priscilla  Zrowka, Centreville, VA, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Kenneth and a sister, Jean Warhola.

The funeral will be Friday, December 2nd at 10:00 Am in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson.

Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St. Simpson.
