Thomas A. Rivenburgh, 88, of Thompson died Sunday at Allied Service Hospice, Scranton. His wife of 56 years is the former Carolyn Geesey.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Asa Reid and Hattie Belle Champion Rivenburgh.  Thomas was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and earned an associate’s degree from what is now SUNY Binghamton.  Tom was a 20 year Army veteran, a musician in the USMA West Point Band, known as “the Hellcats”.  Upon retirement from the Army, Tom served for over 20 years as the police chief of Thompson Borough. He was a member of the musician’s union and had his own band “The Goldtones”.

Thomas is survived by his two children, Linda Taylor and husband Allen, North Syracuse, Thomas Rivenburgh, Jr and wife Joanne, New Milford, four grandchildren, Kathryn Mueller, Kyle Rivenburgh, Chole Randall, Charlie Randall, a great grandson, Calum Mueller and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Reid Rivenburgh.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 2nd for 4 to 7 PM in the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carbondale First United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, 20 North Main Street, Carbondale, PA 18407.
