Obituaries » Vito Burgio June 22, 1919 - March 5, 2016 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Vito Burgio, 96, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL died Saturday at home. His wife, the former Sophie Drob died in 1984. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Vincenzo & Dorathea DiRosa Burgio. He was educated in Carbondale Public schools and was an Army Veteran of WWII. Vito moved his family to Florida in 1965, where he was a self-employed truck driver, until his retirement in 1984. His family and close friends affectionately knew him as “Wink”. He was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed listening to music from the Big Band Era, having seen most of the Bands in his younger days. He enjoyed traveling where he was able to visit family in the eastern U.S., saw Europe and took a number of cruises. A son, Vito A. Burgio of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, two sisters, Louise Drob of Deltona FL and Mary Bucca of Lyndhurst, NJ, along with numerous nieces and nephews survive him. His brothers Charles, John, Angelo, Joseph, James and his sister Caroline Miller, preceded him in death. The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St, Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook St, Carbondale. Interment with Military honors in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 PM.
